Nothing like last minute…

Half the fun, or maybe more like 95% of the fun, of living in Italy is the opportunity to travel.  Mark has been trying to get leave for next week for the past month, and during that month, I’ve been thinking of places we could go.

My list of things places to visit while we live here is still incredibly long, so I had a lot to choose from.  First we were going to go to London.  This is high up there on my to-visit list.  But then we thought it would probably be pretty cold and cloudy up there right now.  So we decided to go there (plus Ireland and maybe Scotland) when he gets back in the fall.  So then we were considering places a little closer to home and came up with Vienna and Budapest (which are 4 and 5.5 hr drive away from us).  I started looking at places to stay and a few of them mentioned how cold it us up there now.  Hm…  Maybe I don’t want to go someplace that’s colder than northern Italy.  So back to the drawing board we went.  Then we considered going to Croatia.  In the States you don’t hear much about Croatia, but the beaches in Croatia are a HUGE tourist attraction here in Europe… in the summer.  Granted I’m sure they’d still be pretty now too, but you can’t really go to the beach and take advantage of it when it’s 50 degrees out.  There are a few parks we want to explore in Croatia also, but the websites said the trails would be either closed due to snow or really muddy.  Not my idea of fun.

So after much deliberation, and waiting for a long time for his leave to get approved, we are headed to Barcelona this weekend!  I am SUPER excited about it.  Numerous friends have said how much they enjoyed Barcelona.  I’ve been looking through a few travel books I picked up from the library and it seems like the weather should be great and many of the places we want to see and things we want to do are kid-friendly, which is always a plus when you’re traveling with an almost 2 year old.  It’ll be Abbie’s first time in Spain and I’m sure we’ll have a great time!  I just booked the flights and apartment so we’re good to go!  Now I just need to pack..

Have fun! And a huge thank you for the goodies I won. The hot chocolate is AMAZING, the Nutella was gone on day one and I love the scarf, I wore it this past weekend! Thanks again!!
